It recent years, it was very impressive to watch how Samsung has gone from strength to strength in fabricating a heap of of the most stylish and powerful tech appliances in the market. From the looks of sales figures and popularity, the brand is presently making big headway in netbooks. Since most netbooks in the market have closely identical specs, makers strive to distinguish themselves in terms of design and features. A outstanding example of this would be the blue Samsung N150 netbook. The blue Samsung NC10 has been sitting comfortably on the bestseller’s charts for the most of last year and the new N150 looks set to take the baton. If you are ever had a glimpse of the Samsung N150, you will without any delay see what the hype is all about. It stands out from the crown with it is subtle matte blue external casing. In fact, in the N150 series, the blue model is the only one with a matte surface that is much more immune to fingerprints and smudges equated to those with shiny surfaces. This model may be considered a budget friendly mid-range model with the usual specs of an Intel N450 processor, 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive. The 10.1-inch screen has a matte surface that significantly reduces glare in bright lighting conditions. Some of the other features include a memory card reader, wireless-N wi-fi and stereo speakers. In runs on the new Windows 7 Starter OS. The battery on this new model may last up to 7 hours at one go. The screen bezel and keyboard area looks as good as it is external side. That area is all black in color where it further highlights the blue exterior. Overall, it feels very sturdily built and the netbook was almost noiseless for the duration of use. With good looks, great specs, and a low price tag, the blue Samsung N150 will prove to be very irresistible to many. That is no bubble or air wrap or protection other than a fold & seal cellophane bag. We won’t even go in to the fee I paid for shipping, versus the fee on the envelope or that Amazon taxes you (and of course the company) on this. I will say this. On the compact flash reader; One of the pins was bent down slightly, which went back into place very easily with a toothpick. Three additional pins extend out of the pin line up. Whether this is really needed or not on this model, I can’t say. I haven’t seen this on any other cf reader, & it certainly isn’t hurting the read/write. On the SD reader; Be careful of your lock data pin, as there isn’t much room there (is there really?). Sliding it in, you may unlock your card. I had more of an issue when I was pulling it out. Initially, the computer locked up on restart (shutting down). Than again on the next restart (on booting), with a card in the reader. It also froze when I tried accessing an image file, right after writing it (and it stopped blinking). This is only a single card (at a time) reader/writer, even though there are several slots. Not a big issue if you have other readers, but not if you’re looking to write from another card on this unit. It just locks up & says that it needs a card. Before you ask me elsewhere in the car forums. Yes, you can use this to read music from a CF card quite well. Of course, your mileage may vary. Swapping to SDHC wasn’t an issue either. The cord makes it nice if you want to tuck the reader out of the way. Seeing my OEM stereo was a double DIN, I can just tuck the reader in the storage tray under it (that I added after installing a single DIN stereo). Final words. It’s plastic & made in China, it works & it’s cheap. It has a cord, not a USB head, which if you want that as I did, is a good thing. You can shove it in your pocket, but keep in mind that the slots are open, so not a pocket with dirt & dust bunnies in it. Overall, buy two or three while they’re cheap. Day two: Went out to test some batteries on the camera. Shot maybe 400 megs of macro shots, using a San disk 8 gig Ultra card. Plugged the reader in to first review the shots. It shut off on the second picture. Unplugged & tried again. Same thing, it would power off, than power back on. Tried a restart & it locked the computer again. Unplugged the card from the cable, computer rebooted. Now the card reads unformatted. Says the same thing in the camera. not a good sign. Additional note on the SDHC card. Even if it comes right from the camera, it will not delete nor rename files. Not good if this is your only reader.
